Stephanie BermanSpecialties: Maternal and child health social work
Interests: Fetal treatment
Stephanie Berman is the Chief Clinical Social Worker for the UCSF Children’s Hospital. She is a licensed clinical social worker and has been counseling families in the Fetal Treatment Center since 1990. She has provided social work services to families in both the Intensive Care Nursery and Obstetrics since 1977.
Stephanie’s work with the Fetal Treatment Team includes meeting with and counseling families whose pregnancies are complicated and where a mother and fetus may be eligible for fetal surgery. She also talks with pregnant women and their partners when babies require intensive care after birth. Stephanie can help make sure that parents have adequate information to prepare for a baby who might be sick and to anticipate and understand the prospects for medical intervention. Frequently, she arranges meetings where parents can meet with the doctors who know about the problems newborn babies encounter. She can as well tour families in the hospital and help them understand the logistics of having a baby in the hospital and the resources available to manage them. She can assist with information and referral to local lodging.
Once a baby is born and in the Intensive Care Nursery, Stephanie is a resource for parents trying to cope with the challenges of having a hospitalized sick newborn while continuing to balance their lives at home.
Our administrative staff at the Fetal Treatment Center will assist you in reaching the appropriate members of our team and helping to coordinate your care. They are integral members of our team and will help you in any way possible.
